Logitech and Google Team Up to Offer One-Touch Access to World’s Largest Search Engine
A New Dimension in the Information Interface
FREMONT, Calif. & MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – August 21, 2001 – Logitech (NASDAQ: LOGIY) (Switzerland: LOGN, LOGZ), provider of one-touch Internet access and navigation through the company’s iTouch™-enabled mice and keyboards, is partnering with Google Inc. to provide consumers with instant access to the award-winning Google search engine. The Google search feature is now available for new customers upon initial installation of MouseWare® Version 9.29 and iTouch software Version 1.70 and above, now shipping with Logitech’s new fall line-up of keyboards announced yesterday. Current users of Logitech scrolling mice and keyboards equipped with search buttons can upgrade to the new software by visiting the company’s web site at www.logitech.com.
"Logitech’s iTouch feature essentially converts mice and keyboards – the two most frequently used peripherals on the desktop – into hardware portals, offering one-touch Internet access and navigation," said Michel Yavercovski, director of the company’s iTouch business. "Through our relationship with Google, we’re taking this concept a step further, offering our customers easy access to the largest index of web pages available on the World Wide Web. By doing this, we’re adding quality content to the one-touch concept."
"We are very excited with this opportunity to partner with Logitech as their search provider in the iTouch package," said Larry Page, co-founder, president of products, Google. "With Google and Logitech working together, we enrich the Internet search and computing experience for all Logitech users."
When users press the "search" button on the Logitech iTouch keyboard, Google will be the pre-configured "search" option within the iTouch environment. Also included in the iTouch suite of offerings are multimedia access and control, instant e-mail and immediate transport to favorite Web sites.
Beginning with iTouch software Version 1.70 and MouseWare Version 9.30, Google will also be listed as a partner in the Logitech® Resource Center (LRC), a software application which resides on the PC desktop of U.S. users and provides direct access to Logitech product information, support and third party value-added services.
