Pfizer, Xerox, Hitachi Data Systems, Nextel Communications, Procter & Gamble, Discovery Communications and the U.S. Army Adopt Google Search Appliance – Sales Increase 200 Percent
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – Aug. 12, 2003 – Google announced today that a growing number of leading pharmaceutical, technology, consumer products and government institutions have adopted the Google Search Appliance (GSA) to enable customers and employees to find the products and information they need easily and efficiently.
New GSA customers announced today include Pfizer, Xerox, Hitachi Data Systems, Nextel Communications, Procter & Gamble, Discovery Communications, the U.S. Army, the San Diego Union-Tribune and the City of San Diego. Launched in early 2002, the GSA is currently deployed by hundreds of institutions in a wide range of industries, including aerospace, technology, broadcasting, retail, government and education. This growing list of GSA customers has contributed to a 200 percent increase in sales over the past year – demonstrating the ongoing market demand for the GSA.
"We use the Google Search Appliance on Xerox Office Group’s intranet site to help connect our sales force with the information they need and enable them to make effective recommendations to customers," said David Bates, director of Internet Marketing, Xerox Office Group. "The appliance was easy to install and configure and requires virtually no IT resources, enabling our team to focus on providing the best content for our sales force."
The GSA is an integrated hardware/software solution that extends the power and relevance of Google search technology to corporate intranets and websites. Below are examples of how Xerox and others have deployed the GSA:
- The Xerox Corporation’s Office Group uses the GSA for its sales and marketing intranet site, enabling the Xerox sales force to search easily and efficiently for brochures about network printers, digital copiers and multifunction systems, program information and data on competing products when making a sale.
- Nextel Communications, a leading provider of fully integrated wireless communications services, uses the GSA to search its support help center – providing employees with immediate access to a wide range of technical and support information to help them respond rapidly to customer inquiries.
- The City of San Diego deploys the GSA on its public website, enabling residents and visitors to easily locate information and services such as legislative documents, live meeting webcasts, and online systems for reporting and tracking street repairs and other civic business.
"In just over one year, we’ve proven that the Google Search Appliance is an effective search solution for a wide range of companies and institutions," said Joan Braddi, Google’s vice president of Search Services. "The Google Search Appliance is the search engine that CIOs, IT and business managers need. It’s simple and it delivers high-quality results at a price that fits their business objectives."
In addition to the customers announced today, the GSA is deployed inside The Boeing Company, Cisco Systems, PBS.org, National Semiconductor Corp., Sur La Table, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC/Radio-Canada), Wesleyan University, and many others.
The GSA is available in three models: the GB-1001, for departments and mid-sized companies; the GB-5005, for dedicated, high-priority search services such as customer-facing websites and company-wide intranet applications; and the GB-8008, for centralized deployments supporting global business units. GSA pricing starts at $28,000, including two years of support and software updates. More information can be found at www.google.com/appliance.
