Google Blog Search

Announcement
September 15, 2005

Today, Google announced the launch of Google Blog Search, a new beta search service that enables users to search for blogs and posts that match their interests. Based on the same technology that powers Google’s web search, Blog Search is available at

blogsearch.google.com and is also integrated with Blogger at www.blogger.com.

Blogs are an important medium of self-expression, we are committed to providing the best tools to access this unique source of news, opinion, and commentary. The ability to search over blog content has been one of the most highly requested features from our users, and we’re excited to offer the following functionalities:

  • Blogs that syndicate posts via RSS or Atom are automatically crawled by Google servers on a regular basis (most of the popular blogging services now enable syndication by default).
  • Once a new post is detected, the Blog Search index is updated so search results always include the freshest content available.
  • After a user conducts a search, Blog Search displays two types of results: blogs that include matching search terms in their titles, and posts that include matching search terms.

Users can customize their queries to restrict their search to blog names, authors, or to a specific date range. Blog Search also features Google’s SafeSearch technology, enabling users to manage the content of their search results. With Google Blog Search, users can now find the freshest and most relevant blog posts about topics of interest to them.

Google Blog Search is currently available in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Dutch, Russian, Brazilian Portuguese, and Korean, with additional languages to follow. More information can be found at www.google.com/help/about_blogsearch.html.
