OmniSky Selects Google’s Award-Winning Search Engine as Premier Search Technology for its Wireless Customers

MOUNTAIN VIEW and PALO ALTO, Calif. – May 3, 2000 – Google Inc., one of the fastest growing search engines on the web, and OmniSky, the provider of a complete wireless Internet service, entirely wireless on handheld devices such as the Palm V, today announced an agreement that enables OmniSky users to search the Internet with Google’s fast and highly relevant search engine technology.

Launched today, OmniSky’s complete wireless Internet service includes user interface software that makes it easy to access a vast amount of web content and provides a fast, streamlined way to send and receive email with a wirelessly enabled Palm V. Mobile Insights, a leading information source for the mobile computing and data communications markets, recently selected the OmniSky complete wireless service as the best Software/Service for Wireless Data for 1999.

Google’s easy to use search technology enables OmniSky subscribers to search wirelessly for web pages on the Internet. Google automatically breaks up the search results into several smaller pages, which are connected by "more" buttons, to offer the user increased performance and to conserve bandwidth. OmniSky and the Google search engine are planned for availability on additional wireless platforms, including other Palm organizers, Windows CE devices, pagers and WAP-enabled mobile phones.

"Google’s no-nonsense approach to search is a natural fit for the OmniSky wireless Internet service. We selected Google’s search engine because of its simple and clean interface, highly relevant search results, and ease-of-integration," said Barak Berkowitz, president of OmniSky. "OmniSky users expect easy-to-use, relevant utilities and resources that help them quickly access the information they require while on the go. Google helps us deliver on that promise."

"OmniSky offers users the ability to access the vast amount of Internet-based information easily and affordably while away from their desktop PCs," said Larry Page, Google CEO and co-founder. "This announcement strongly supports Google’s corporate objective of being the leading search engine for Internet users who connect to the web using desktop PCs and wireless devices, such as smart phones and handheld computers."

Benefits of Google Search Technology

Designed for Internet users worldwide, Google’s search engine offers web surfers simple, fast, and highly relevant search results for every web-connected computer, including the emerging class of wireless devices such as Palm handhelds, pagers, and Internet-ready mobile phones. The key benefits of Google’s search engine include its ease of use and clean interface, and highly relevant results. Google is based on a variety of innovative technologies including sophisticated text matching and its advanced, patent-pending technology called PageRank™, which ensures that the most important results always come up first. This scalable approach to search enables Google to get better as the Internet gets bigger.
