Google Wins WIRED Readers Raves Award

Google Search Engine Recognized as Most Intelligent Agent on the Internet

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – October 13, 2000 – Google Inc., developer of the award-winning Google search engine, today announced it has won a WIRED Readers Raves award for "Most Intelligent Agent." Google’s search destination site was among a field of five websites competing for this esteemed honor at the second annual WIRED Readers Raves awards ceremony held last night in San Francisco.

Readers Raves is WIRED’s readers’ annual choice poll to choose the best in the technology industry--the people, products, and websites igniting the world. From July 11 to Aug. 15, WIRED readers voted for their favorites in each category, and the winners were announced last night at the Readers Raves Awards Gala. Google and other leading companies were recognized for their accomplishments and innovation in a wide variety of areas, including design, functionality, cultural impact, commercial viability and all-around "wiredness."

In addition to Google, this year’s nominees included Spike Jonze, director of "Being John Malkovich," and Stephen King for "Cultural Innovator"; "Blair Witch Project" and Napster for "Best Guerrilla Marketing"; and Nokia and Motorola for "Best Wireless Phone." In the category of "Most Intelligent Agent," Google was selected over HotBot, MySimon, NorthernLight, and Dealtime.com.

"Readers Raves reflects the technology zeitgeist, and offers a sneak peek on the future," said Drew Schutte, publisher of WIRED Magazine.

"We are flattered that loyal Google users around the world continue to show widespread support for our search engine," said Larry Page, Google CEO and co-founder. "The WIRED Readers Raves award further reaffirms that Google continues to provide the best search experience on the Internet."

"We’re honored to receive such high praise from both WIRED readers and the Google user community," said Sergey Brin, Google president and co-founder. "The Google search engine has become a trusted resource to millions of Internet users worldwide, who come to us time and time again to find the information they need online."
